Color

When choosing the color of your diamond, you want to buy the stone with the least amount of color. A diamond is judged to have greater value, and be of higher quality, the more colorless it appears. The vast majority of diamonds display some amount of yellow or brown, but this is often not apparent to the naked eye. On account of this it is important to refer to the color chart when purchasing a diamond.

Diamonds range in color from D to Z. If someone attempts to sell you a diamond that has an A, B, or C, color you are being offered a fraudulent stone. According to the chart, the color of D represents absolute colorlessness, a perfectly colored diamond. The color of Z, is the worst color of diamond, and will be visibly yellow. Most buyers will find that a diamond color of D, and sometimes E, is going to be beyond their budget. We recommend purchasing a stone in the F - H color range. If you are interested in size rather than color a near colorless stone can still be purchased in the I-J color range. We do not suggest that you purchase a stone over the color grade of K. It is also important to remember that colored diamonds are not graded according to this color scale.
