At Lakeville Jewelers we offer you a special opportunity to create your own jewelry or to purchase a custom made item from one of Steven Berger's designer collections. To create an original item, Lakeville Jewelers utilizes the Lost Wax technique, a sculptoral method dating from antiquity. First, we create a sketch showing the piece of jewelry to be made. After a review of the design, a wax model is created, rendering the image into a three dimensional sculpture. The completed wax model is sheathed in plaster(technically, the term for this is invested) taking the the form of the wax sculpture as it dries. Once the plaster is dried, the wax is melted out through a small hole in the bottom of the cast causing the an imprint from the wax to be left on the cast. The plaster cast is then filled with molten gold. After a cooling period the cast is removed revealing a perfect piece of jewelry.
